On a brisk evening in late April, twenty young men and women gathered at the base of Table Rock in Golden Colorado to share in a very unique experience. The adventurous souls who attended YogaDates’ first outdoor event participated in a very pleasant and enjoyable mix of moderate hiking and outdoor Yoga on top of the iconic rock which concluded right as the sun was setting. As if the experience of hiking + yoga + sunset wasn’t enough to make for an excellent opportunity for the bachelors and bachelorettes to get to know each other, the YogaDaters were rewarded with a family style Nepalese dinner under the stars where they were free to eat, drink and be merry.
The like-minded singles began mingling even before we set off on the hike which switchbacked casually up the western slope of South Table Mountain until we reached the rocky pinnacle. With heart rates lightly piqued from the ascent, Ms. Amy Baglan led the YogaDaters through a carefully planned sequence of all-levels standing poses. The vinyasa flow was carefully chosen to preserve the ability to gaze at the beautiful scenery and take in the natural beauty during the Golden Hour prior to sunset.
The vinyasa flow was followed up by a Qigong sequence which is designed to align breath, movement and awareness – bringing all the participants to a peaceful place just in time to enjoy an incredible sunset from an amazing vantage point with 360 degree views of Colorado’s Front Range. Coconut water was generously offered to all who were assembled on Table Rock that night, and an amazing silence spontaneously fell on the whole group right as the sun was dipping out of view behind the mountains.
At YogaDates we like to keep the good times going so as with all our events, a signature mingling hour had already been set up for the sunset-yoga-hikers to partake in some fine Nepalese food. After coming down from Table Rock we all regrouped a few blocks away at the Sherpa House, also in Golden, and we used their locally famous Chai tea to toast to a fabulous evening before partaking in an amazing family style meal spread across a few tables.
The Sunset Yoga Hike was an unforgettable experience for planners and participants alike – memories were created, connections were flowing and we all got to meet some very interesting likable people.
